What We Do &
How We Operate
Aegis Safety Alliance has built safety resources, guides and newsroom policies, and delivered trainings, workshops, conference talks, panel moderation and consultations for clients around the world.
We run on a hybrid model we are both a multi-member LLC and a fiscally sponsored project. Everything we receive through fiscal sponsorship goes directly to charitable work i.e. workshops, trainings and resource-building for low-resourced media producers, human rights defenders and journalism-serving organizations. And 35% of profits from our client work through the LLC is reinvested to support those same efforts.
Previous Work
Editors Safety Hub — Our advisors outlined, scripted and crafted all non-visual content for this ACOS-partnered webinar series advising newsrooms on safe commissioning practices.
Journalism Source of Safety (J-SOS) — Tara Pixley led this effort as a Reynolds Journalism Innovation Fellow, building an accessible digital tool to resource freelance and student journalists with limited access to safety knowledge, training or support.
TJA Holistic Safety Guide — Our advisors worked with the Trans Journalist Association to expand on existing materials and craft this accessible guide for queer and trans journalists.
ACOS Assignment Safety Checklist — Our advisors partnered with ACOS to produce this simpler form of pre-assignment risk assessment for less complex assignments.
Knight Foundation Election Safety Hub — This project was conceived and led by two Aegis advisors and Aegis advisors worked with four other journalist-serving organizations to provide counsel and crisis response to newsrooms and journalists during the 2024 election period.
Forthcoming (2027)— In collaboration with Authority Collective and Reynolds Journalism Institute, Aegis is expanding on the J-SOS digital resources to help build a mobile app that introduces a safety ecosystem for journalists.
